Steady "Even" Improvement

Scott Lees

There are many quotes and several songs that utilize the phrase "One Step at a Time." However, this season, Scott Lees is making his improvements two steps at a time. And there is nothing "odd" about that as he is hitting the "evens" as he has done so. At Tillamook, he was our 16th boy MS XC runner on the team. The next week at HRV he moved up to #14. At Woodland, we only ran 1.5 miles instead of the usual 3000 Meters, so we won't count that (but he should have been 12th).Three days later at PDX Meadow he moved up to #10. At our own Cottonwood Beach Invitational, he jumped to #8. Will he hit #6 then #4 on the last two races? The hardest question is what if we had 4 more races remaining? Where would he be then? Great Job Scott for your steady "Even" progression this year!

"Will the Real Courtney Owens Please Stand Up?"

Abby Lees

Or better yet, "... please sprint like crazy to the finish line?" The title question was the signature phrase in the nostalgic TV show "What's My Line." During our only home meet of the season, school record and course record holder had to watch from the sidelines. So several of her teammates vicariously took on the persona of Courtney Owens. The one that demonstrated that the best was Abby Lees. Not only did she shave off over two minutes from her season's best on a Black Course, her final acceleration the last 50 meters was very reminiscent of Courtney's finishing kick. Abby was flying so fast, her glossy golden sticker claiming she was Courtney for a day actually flew off her uniform. She was almost running fast enough, but not quite, to lose the panther orange and black face paint. A few more Hyper-Speed workouts and just maybe...
